Tips When Buying Shoes
Wait until later in the day
Your feet are more swollen at the end of the day than they are first thing in the morning.
You want shoes to fit your feet in their larger state.
Don’t go by size alone
A size 8 in one shoe may be a 9 in another. Don’t be afraid to go up or down size.
If you are lucky enough to find shoes that come in different widths, remember that contributes to fit.
For example, try the 8B versus the 8 1/2 A.
Look in a full length mirror
It is the only way to see if the proportions of the shoe compliment your body.
Check out your silhouette from the side and from the front.
Walk on uncarpeted surface
Just as the cushioning inside your shoes makes them more comfortable, so does cushioning outside.
The only way to test how shoes will feel after you’ve been pounding the pavement is to try them out on a hard floor.
Move
Besides walking around, wiggle your toes, flex your ankles and sit down and stand up several times.
If anything feels tight or rubs, rest assured you’ll be needing Band-Aids soon.
Think ahead
Consider how you’ll be wearing the shoes. If you wear an insert, you may need a larger size.
The same applies to boots: Will you wear them with thick socks?
If so, buy a size to accommodate that thickness; on warmer days, you can wear an insole to make up the difference.
